Nicely done — yes you nicely argue for an independent semantic layer. I’m less a fan of the inclusion of a semantic layer as a necessity for BI. I haven’t seen statistics that back this up, but having run Spotfire, and working with the Tableau community, I would hazard a guess that less than 10% of those community use an independent semantic layer as opposed to one that’s built in. But with agents and AI, I think that may change quickly.
